Biometric standardization

Biometric recognition of individuals is an attractive authentication method based on the observation of behavioural and biological characteristics, such as face, iris or fingers. Such methods can constitute a comfortable alternative to knowledge based or token based authentication methods. The talk provides an overview of biometric applications and then covers selected biometric standards that are need to serve these applications.

A specific focus is given on the aspect of biometric presentation attack detection. The talk will reflect these standards against the opportunities that are provided by modern Smartphones for biometric applications.

Special attention is given to privacy enhancing technologies and related standards that provide protection of sensitive biometric data.
